Chalkboard Chalk tip

My tip for you this week is a cool one. I used to write on a chalk board that was the sidewalk sign for our coffeehouse. I learned right away that if I wrapped the chalk up in a wet towel (or paper towels) and let them get good and wet before I used them,they were much easier to use. When I took them out of the towel they would just sail across the chalkboard with ease. The colors were so much more vibrant as well. I loved to write on the sidewalk board. My favorite chalk is the Sidewalk Chalk because it is fat and easy to hold, especially when wet. Not to mention you can find such cool colors.

The picture shown is of one of my rental condos - I painted one of the walls with chalkboard paint, so my renters could use it and have fun. My renters have all enjoyed the chalkboard wall.

The towels that you use to wet the chalk or to wipe off the chalkboard will probably get stained by the chalk - so designate a chalk towel or two before all of your guest towels become tie-dyed lol

    Love this tip. I think I am a repressed school teacher with an unexpressed desire to write in chalk!!

    I love the chalk board paint.... we have one wall at the end of my kitchen that is this way. We are buying a new house right now and I am already scoping out where I can put my chalk board wall. I have always been frustrated by the chalk though, so I will try wetting it first! Thanks for the tip!

    I own rental condos in Jacksonville, FL. We have three of them. Click on the Label on the side of the blog and read the Jax Condo Rental tag - that will explain a lot about what we do.

    Great tip! I had no idea wetting the chalk was the way to go. I painted our pantry doors in chalkboard paint. I love it but I find myself using our whiteboard more often. Easier to write and erase. I'll have to try your wet chalk idea.

    I have always wanted to use that chalkboard paint somewhere in our house.

    Thanks. I never knew about the wet chalk tip. I am currently doing a sign board for my ice cream store in chalk and am trying to seal it so people with itchy fingers wont be able to rub it off.

    Any tips on sealing it? I have not been able to seal it successfully despite multiple coats of spray on acrylic lacquer.

    I just finished turning an entire wall in my son's room into a giant chalkboard! He is so excited! There is enough room for everyone to draw! We made him a step stool with a "secret" drawer to hold all of his chalk!
