K-Tel Music Express 1975
This morning a little email sent me on a minor quest to find the record that I loved so much as a kid. I used to play this record over and over and over again. I also used to play the 45 "Slow Dancing" over and over again...but that was a few years later I think.*
So I did a quick Google search this morning for Philadelphia Freedom + K-Tel and found exactly what I was looking for. I knew that Philadelphia Freedom was on that album as well as Run Joey Run, but I didn't like song as well and didn't want to Google it lol I found the album cover on this site, Vinyl Records - Canada, as well as a list of what was included on the album. What a hoot this was to be transported back to the basement of the house I grew up in in Lansing, MI. Visualize yellow shag carpet. Brown paneling. A yellow laminate wet bar at one end of the walk out basement. Instead of using it for jumping rope, I used the jump rope as my microphone. I was never much into exercise, but singing I could do!
Come join me in my childhood.

*AND because I mentioned the 45 of Slow Dancing, I HAD to find the lyrics for it. I didn't realize that this song was considered Country Music. I would listen to this for hours. Amazing. Is that sort of like watching the same episode of Project Runway over and over again, or watching the same movie (Music and Lyrics) over and over and over again? Like it's ever going to end differently! I think I'm secretly hoping they'll throw in another song. Anyway, here's Slow Dancing...
Slow Dancing - Johnny Duncan 1979
It’s Late At Night And We’re All Alone
just The Music On The Radio
no One’s Coming No One’s Gonna Telephone
just Me And You And The Lights Down Low
and We’re Slow Dancing Swaying To Music
slow Dancing Me And My Girl
slow Dancing Swaying To Music
no One Else In The Whole Wide World Just You Girl
we Just Flow Together With The Lights Are Low
shadows Dancing All Across The Wall
music’s Playing So Soft And Slow
the Rest Of The World So Far Away And Small
and You’re Slow Dancing Swaying To Music
slow Dancing Me And My Girl
slow Dancing Swaying To Music
no One Else In The Whole Wide World
hold Me Aw Hold Me
don’t Ever Let Me Go
as We Dance Together In The Dark
so Much Love In This Heart Of Mine
whisper To Me, Hold Me Tight
you’re The One I Thought I’d Never Find
and We’re Slow Dancing Swaying To Music
slow Dancing Me And My Girl
slow Dancing Swaying To Music
no One Else In The Whole Wide World
and We’re Slow Dancing Swaying To Music
slow Dancing Me And My, My, My, My Girl
slow Dancing Swaying To Music
no One Else In The Whole Wide World, Whole Wide World
I thought, hmm, slow dancing, don't think I ever heard it. Then I scanned the lyrics and as soon as I hit the chorus I was singing it out loud!
ReplyDeleteJust me and my, my, my, my girl...
I didn't recognize the beginning either, but the chorus totally sucked me in lol
ReplyDeleteI love the song slow dancing!!!!! =)
ReplyDeleteYes, Mike is absolutely correct...Johnny Rivers sang it in the 70's. I did not know it had been previously recorded by someone else. Learned something new today!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha Ha!!
ReplyDeleteI love this post! One summer in the seventies my family stayed at my aunt's cottage in rural Ontario Canada.
This was the only album they had on a clunky 8 track player.
I remember sitting in a huge rocking chair listening to this tape over and over again.
Cheers goat!
