POTD - Coffee Cup

Mom's coffee cup - by Kristin Corlett

This is a coffee cup that my mother has had forever...mid seventies, maybe?

Enjoy!

  2. Couldn't resist posting this from my good friend Bethy: ...a poem
(oh, and I still love that cup!)

    TWAS THE DIET AFTER CHRISTMAS

Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
at the holiday parties had gone to my waist!!

When I stepped on the scales there arose such a number!
Then I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
    I remembered the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd forgotten, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

And said to myself, as only I can

"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So--away with each ounce of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, all crackers and chips.

Now every last bit of my favorites are banished
Until each added inch has successfully vanished!
    I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll only be chewing on long celery sticks!

No more hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what the First month is for?

Unable to giggle, now subdued and quiet,
I wish you a fine year, embracing your diet!

  3. P.S. I've not quite gotten around to actually throwing out all the cookies, but I 'hoping' to freeze them TODAY, which does actually keeps me from eating them :o))

  4. Is that a FACE on the cup? Big nose, glasses?

    Jimmy Durante maybe!

Oh, maybe you're too young to KNOW Jimmy Durante.

  5. Ah, I see it now - - - a pear. But that's pretty boring next to MY interpretation!

    I'm voting for Jimmy!
