I'm in Gulf Shores, Alabama this week because my Mom is down a few weeks. Last year was her first year hanging out at the condo in the retirement community and it went pretty well, so she's back down again this year.
This year however we decided to ask our cousins to come join us for a day or two. Neta and my Mother are first cousins.
In the photo above are the mother/daughter pairs - my mom, Judith and me and then Alicia and her mom, Neta - which is pronounced knee-tah or kneed-ah depending on if you say the T or pronounce it with a D.
As we were all in the car today running off to the local art fair, Alicia commented that we were in 4 different decades. I'm 43, Alicia is 52, my Mom just turned 65 the other day and Neta is 73 (eek, is is 73? or 72. Darn, I forgot)
When I attend the art fairs in Michigan we usually don't have the option of Alligator on a stick (or on THE stick) - isn't that funny?!! I don't see that in Florida much either. I didn't have alligator today, I opted for some....
I did. I had some Old Fashioned Ice Cream that was being churned my gas powered churner from 1923. What I couldn't get over was the sign. Old Fashion. I laughed myself silly at that. You all can correct me if I'm wrong, but I swear it should say Old Fashioned. Well anyway, it was incredible Ice Cream no matter how it's spelled.
One of the other nice things about my arriving this week was that I got a chance to see MY first cousin, Colin. It was just a cousin kind of weekend!
For the past two years Colin and his girlfriend, Liza have spent their spring break here at the retirement community :) Well, the beach is just a few miles away, so it's a great vacation spot. They brought a friend with them this year, a guy named Traven. So in the photo above, left to right - Traven, Liza and Colin. Last year I arrived just a day after Liza and Colin left, so it was nice this year that we crossed paths.
Tomorrow I'll show you what my Mom bought for the condo. LOVE IT!
Have a great day!
Kristin
Old fashion ice cream and alligator on the stick...just love it. Maybe it IS old fashion (that's a grammar question I'd need to research) and maybe it IS THE stick, not just any old stick. LOL
ReplyDeleteyummy, ice cream, and old fashion is the best. I at alligator once .. I didn't like it .. too tough and chewy, but since it was at a restaurant here, I'd probably try it somewhere closer where it might be more fresh rather than frozen prior to cooking. I can't wait to see the Art Fair stuff your mom bought.
ReplyDeleteSorry I just have to say this, Traven is a hotty! It sounds like a perfect time. Glad you didn't eat the alligator :( I would have gone for the ice cream too! Love the picture of the 4 decades.
ReplyDeleteHi Kristin - - - have you met up with Leigh and Jen yet???????? I'm sooooooooooo jealous I could eat lead and spit nails! Hahahahahahaha
ReplyDeleteWhen did Colin grow up? Last time I saw him was at your wedding, and he kept pestering me to get him a beer (which I did not do)!!!!!
ReplyDeleteAlligator on the stick? Hilarious.
ReplyDeleteI once saw a booth out in front of St Augustine that offered "Casa Dias". Yep, quesadillas.
OOH OOH OOH! You are close!!!! I just got home around lunch today and it is SO nice knowing that you are just down the road.
ReplyDeleteHow strange that the pic is of 4 generations - you all look 30 something :)
(y'all really are a great looking bunch of ladies!)
See you SOON!
Hi Kristin,
