My first attempt at college was the fall of 1984 and I was attending the University of New Mexico. One of the very first people I met was a girl named Suzanne. She didn't live in the dorm, but a good friend of hers did, just across the hall from me, so Suzanne came by quite often. We got to know each other pretty well and have managed to stay in touch all these years later.
I met her family a few years ago when I was traveling through Arizona, where she now lives. One of her children, Riley, was there that day. I had no idea that I was meeting a future recording star!
Riley Rae just recently recorded a song called 7 Short Days. It's really good!
You can preview the song here on youTube and if you'd like to add it to your music library you can purchase Riley's single, 7 Short Days on iTunes.
I know this is a mini commercial, but I'm so excited for my friend and her daughter. Not to mention I really enjoyed the music, so I'm proud to show it off :)

I have lunch with my support group friends nearly every Thursday. I am never really sure who's going to come from week to week or even if I'm going to know everyone, but I do know that the conversation is going to be fun and interesting. Today we discovered that all 6 of us having lunch together were all gallbladderless. Everyone at Mayo who receives a liver transplant receives that liver but not a gallbladder. I guess they don't transplant well, so they are expendable. The two of us who were the caregivers had our gallbladders removed years ago. It's funny where conversations take us!

I do love being a dork. It's one of my best qualities. However that dorkiness makes me hyper emotional at the strangest times. Let me tell you a quick story -- I have been looking forward to the Pioneer Woman Thanksgiving Throwdown with Bobby Flay ever since I heard about it last week. I love PW. It's amaing how someone you've never met can be so influential in ones life. I really started taking photos of absoluetly everything because of PW, started cooking more because of her and I love her blog.
OK so the TV show was beginning. PW had a little video where she challenged Bobby Flay to a Throwdown, Bobby accepted and then they cut to the Lodge where PW was going to talk about she was going to make. I completely burst into tears. I had to push pause on the TV. I was so choked up. I did manage to pull myself together and watch the show. It was Fabulous! If you didn't catch it last night, you still have a few shots left to see it on the Food Network.
Tune In: Throwdown

One of the most popular blog posts of mine is my cooking tutorial on How to Bake Sweet Potatoes. My tutorial is for baking two potatoes, but I'm sure if you were cooking a dozen or so you could alter the cooking times a bit and have them turn out just as wonderful. The method that I describe makes the best baked sweet potatoes I have ever had and the easiest to get out of the skin. Click the link and jot down the directions just in case you need it for next week.

Thanks so much for stopping by. What a joy it is.

She sounds great and I enjoyed the song. That is so cool! How nice that you meet for lunch and keep in touch with transplant patients. I know that I have cooked more since I got the PW Cookbook. I just set my DVR for Sundays showing. Thank you. I love baked Sweet Potatoes, I have one for myself for next Thursday. No one else likes them in this house. Butter and brown sugar on them is delicious. I have always poked mine so I will try it your way! I love that you can get them at some restaurants now. Great post. Have a nice weekend.
ReplyDeletePioneer Woman----I went to the site, scrolled around, and burst into tears already.
ReplyDeleteI MEAN! Chocolate Chip Cookie Sweet Rolls! OMG!
burst into tears watching a food network show - really?
ReplyDeleteHave you ever gone to one of those Japanese restaurants were the chef comes and entertains at the table? Just wondering if you could handle it.
all the best.
What no photography class or assignment update? Do tell when you get a second. Remember f64.

Hi! I'm here from Friday Fragments.
ReplyDeleteI loved the song. She will do well in the music industry.
I so love me some Pioneer Woman. I live near her and have met her.
I have already watched last night's show TWICE. LOL!
Have a wonderful weekend!
the only time I miss having cable is when something like this throwdown happens... your friend's daughter is very talented!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool your friend's daughter made a recording! I think it's very nice of you to promote it here on your blog.
ReplyDeleteGoing out for lunch with a group once a week is fun. I used to do that when our bowling team went out after bowling. Good times!
Stopping by from Friday Fragments.
I love PW! I'm going to have to look for the Throwdown episode - I'm usually more of an Alton Brown girl so I totally missed the previews.
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday!
It is funny where conversations can go with other people. I often wonder how we got to where we are. I love to soul search with others and just be present. So interesting to find out where others have come from.
ReplyDeleteLoved watching the Pioneer Woman on throwdown. I must admit, I did not have quite the same reaction as you, but I really enjoyed feeling like I got to know her better through watching the show. I had no idea the lodge would look that way on the outside! It was fun to see some the people she's blogged about too actually in motion.
TGIF - I will have to check out the song. It is always good to support young new talent!
ReplyDeleteMy mother and I love baked sweet potatoes (well really any kind of sweet potato) - Tara only likes sweet potato fries!
I am a terrible cook, so I had better learn how to cook those sweet potatoes. Here's hoping.
ReplyDeleteHow fun that your friend's daughter has her own real live recorded song! Very cool.
ReplyDeleteYeah - who needs a gallbladder? ;) Funny that ALL of you are minus one.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
i seriously wanted to thank you for introducing me to the pioneer woman!! that is an amazing woman!!! i had not run across her blog yet. thank you!
ReplyDeleteI did, I did catch it last night! It was very fun indeed.
ReplyDeleteI think it's sweet that you cried watching PW!
ReplyDeleteOk, I LOVE the PW too... She is one of my favorite bloggers ever!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see this Throwdown with Bobby Flay. I didn't even know about it till now. What would I do with out my FF friends? Who needs the TV guide?... Anyway, I just saw Bobby Flay Throwdown with Paula Deen a few weeks ago and I laughed so hard. She is HILARIOUS!!!
Your pics are getting good... What do you shoot with?
PW doesn't know it yet, but we're BFF's. For real. (along with the rest of her readers, I'm sure!)
ReplyDeleteI thought I was one of a few of not having a gallbladder. Yeah...you're *not* the norm if you still have one!
I love how conversations can go all kinds of wacky!
Have a great weekend!
That is so great about Riley Rae!
ReplyDeleteOk, I'll admit I cry at strange times, but you may have me beat!
