I've been wanting to go into the H. Warren Smith Cemetery for quite some time and today I finally got the opportunity. It's just a small little cemetery a mile or so from the ocean, but I've noticed a few statues that I wanted to photograph. I don't have any problems wandering through cemeteries, standing on graves or reading the headstones. Good thing, huh, because that's exactly what I did this afternoon.
We had a beautiful, sunny, cold day today. The wind was whipping around too, but it was a nice relaxing time wandering around the headstones and statues. I especially enjoy seeing all the declarations of love. I even saw a card, wrapped in plastic, placed at one of the stones. So sad and so sweet.

Cemetaries are one of my favorite places to take photographs! I love your photos, especially the last one with the shadow! I think I told you once about that special religious place up on the hill above the highway in Pittsburgh. I took a series of photographs there a couple years ago, but wanted to get some recent shots.
ReplyDeleteWell I forgot to mention that I went there last month. It is a very bad place in Pittsburgh and I went alone. Anyway I get there manage to talk myself into walking down this dead end alley by myself and guess what...the gate was LOCKED! I was soo mad! Anyway I'll make sure to post/blog those old photos soon. It makes for an intersting story!

I, too, love to walk in cemeteries, though I haven't done so in a long time. My friend Molly's son is buried in a beautiful, old cemetery full of enormous oak trees; it's a beautiful place. She drives past it every day on her way to work, which is awful. Whenever I drive past it, I say a prayer for anyone who might be there (alive and mourning).

ReplyDeleteCemeteries make me sad. Especially tombs of young ones. I keep wondering what made them die so young. Cemeteries back home in India are not well kept. Never stepped into a German one.
ReplyDeleteThere is something kind of relaxing to cemeteries. They used to ooog me out, but now I find peace there. And you did a great job capturing the statues. There is some incredible art to be found there.
ReplyDeleteI do love walking through cemeteries. I know that every stone was surrounded by sadness when the person was placed there but it is so peaceful to walk around. They have the most beautiful statues. Thank you for sharing your day with me.
