I have a thing for Fortune Cookie fortunes. I used to save only the ones I thought were good, but the local Chinese takeout place has the lamest fortunes. At the rate I was going I was never going to fill up my jar.
This is a marshmallow cream jar. It's one of my favorite shaped jars. I have three or four of them - one of them even has a metal lid, when they used to have metal lids. Now they are blue plastic lids, but I digress.
The other marshmallow cream jars hold homemade bread crumbs, but this jar became the fortune jar. I think I had grand plans for collecting fortunes because this jar holds a lot. I had no idea.
The other night my WWW (Women's Wine and Whine) group met at a really great Chinese restaurant and at the end of the meal the fortune cookies were passed out. I mentioned to the person next to me that if they weren't taking their fortune home with them that I'd love to have it. The woman across from me said that she thought that the fortune would turn into bad luck if the person who opened it gave it away. I'd never heard of that before.
I don't believe that I have a jar of bad luck, so I choose not to agree with her reasoning and I gathered up the fortunes from the table after everyone left :)
Here are the other posts where I talked about the fortunes found in fortune cookies. Here and Here.
Have a wonderful weekend.

I havent ever heard that? But I think its neat that jar of "fortunes" a conversation piece.
ReplyDeleteOf COURSE it won't bring you bad luck!!!! There really is no such thing, as we all know - - - so collect away and ENJOY the fun.
ReplyDeleteNeither will it bring you GOOD luck - - - for there is no such thing as THAT either. Sigh.
I've never ever heard of that. I think that is interesting that you save them. I often save the good ones but at some point I toss them.
ReplyDeleteI had one saved on my bulletin board at work for 2 years. It was one of encouragement. I tossed it not too long ago but after reading your post, I wish I hadn't. You must have a lot of storage space at your condo LOL.
ReplyDeleteI save the good ones, being pretty sure that the lame ones aren't going to improve with age.
ReplyDeleteBut I paste them in my sketchbook and draw a cartoon with them, or use them for the words in the word balloon. They're always good for a laugh later on.
I understand saving & loving the jars. I saved a couple of large glass jars that my great aunt was going to throw away about 30 years ago. They were already old when she decided to throw them out. She had kept them for a long time thinking she would use them for pickling or canning something and finally decided they were too big. They still have lids that say "Vaccum Packed Coffee. Always Fresh." I snatched them up and have used them to hold various art supplies over the years. I love their size & shape.
ReplyDeleteI don't save fortunes but I DO save marshmallow cream jars. How funny is that? I like the shape too and put small crafty things in them.
ReplyDeleteMy mother saves them too - she uses them as drinking glasses :)
Very cool! I never think to post things like this. I have a jar that I collect wine corks in! With a fine point sharpie I write the event and the date that the wine was used. I have one from our wedding, each anniversary, and ones from New Years. We don't drink other than special occassions so my jar isn't very full! lol But I do like the idea of fortunes in a jar! Very creative!
ReplyDeleteNo way! They do not turn into bad luck.
