POTD - Fence Post
©2011 Kristin Corlett
This is just your average, every day fence post that can be found in any neighborhood.
Right?
I guess if everyone had these beautiful fence posts they wouldn't seem so special.
Although maybe you might not think these are beautiful.
The lichen and tillandsia (air plants) have made themselves at home on the metal posts. I guess they must be getting some nutrients somehow.
Enjoy!

It IS beautiful! Love it.
Mrs. Science can help!!!
The lichens and the air plants don't NEED to get their nutrients from the metal fence post!
Lichens are ACTUALLY a blend of a fungus and an alga, the alga produces food via photosynthesis for both itself and the fungus and the fungus in return "anchors" the alga and gives it support.
Air plants get what they need out of the air and simply anchor themselves to the post.
GORGEOUS photo of post, lichens AND air plant!!!
I love it!
Wow! I've never seen an air plant live in the "wild". I always see them for sale at flower shows.
Super cool!
