POTD - Sago Palm
©2011 Kristin Corlett
The new fronds of the Sago Palm are so soft and curly. When they become fully open they are sharp as can be! I love the tight little curls. They remind me of fiddleheads. I'll write up a whole blog post about these palms this week.
Enjoy!

And now is the part where Miss Science tells you that your beloved sago palm is not a palm at all but a cycad, which is a gymnosperm (in the same group as pines) because they reproduce using cones!
They are SUCH imposters, looking so much like a palm and all!
I LOVE the way those fronds are curled - - - not being a Floridian, I did NOT know they came out like that!
With every beachy photo (this qualifies as beachy because palm!) I feel as if I'm drawn closer and closer to moving to Florida.
Okay...it is fiddlehead season here in New England...time for you to head North!
That is so cool. That is the plant Skye got in her paw and licking it poisoned her. It was a super itsy bitsy plant. I love the curls in your picture!
You have an eye for detail. Nice job!
Reminds me of the ferns out in my yard that curl up! Love it.
I adore Keetha's comment on this post. I don't know nothin' about anything so she always knocks me out with her scientific brainery :) Love her! Love you too!
