I just recently discovered the Florida Memory Project website. It's a division of the library and information services and they have managed to collect over 170,000 digital photos. I think I can probably spend a few dozen hours looking through this particular archive. I pulled just a few photos from my search "Jacksonville Beaches" in black and white. I've been home sick for well over a week now, so what's going on in my city is a look back at the way it was.

I hope you enjoyed a look back at what it was like in Jacksonville, FL before the internet :) For more tours of cities near and far, please head on over to Unknown Mami's weekly carnival - Sundays in my City. It's one of my favorite places to be each week.
Have a great day!

These are all fabulous photos. A great look back in the history of Florida. I need to checkout the archive. Thanks for sharing!
I loved Ida May Roth at the Beach. The title... the picture... perfect!
Your display is impressive. I have a few old photographs of family members at the beach. But we didn't have a beauty queen among the sea oats. Great heels, too.
Great pics. I thought I was one of the people people that enjoyed going through archives.
Love black & white photos. Kristin, your blog header is as much a pleasure to see as your photos. Really enjoyed my visit! Have a great Sunday!
oh the best one is the baby races - cute little turtles.
I've never seen turtle races done with babies. Our kids would have been eating the sand.
Great find.
I love these. My stepdad's grandmother was a Miss Florida.
I couldn't help but compare the baby races with the piglet races. Apparently they didn't bribe the babies with Oreos. LOL
Great fun!!! Love the pictures.
The baby races have it - I thought it was an invention by certain tv programs not that they've happened in the past. Fun post.
Baby races is my favorite~
Lovely old photo, thanks for sharing, specially, the baby races, two young children fishing, group at the beach, family photo.
Those are amazing pics! It's great to look back and see what things looked like!
I Love the baby races!
Thank you, these were amazing and so much fun to see!
Thanks for sharing this was a fun post!

Ida may was my grandmother's sister. She is also in the group photo at the beach:
Back row Jeptha Turner Harrison Jr. and Ida May (Roth) Harrison. Front row: Bessie Lee Roth Hill, Myrtle Ola Roth, Allie Brittain.
My mom found these great old photos of our family when her siter died a few years ago. I encourage anyone with older Flrodia families to donate to the Florida Photographic collection Florida State Archives. You can order some of these photos and see many more Florida photos at www.Floridamemory.com
