POTD - Angel
©2011 Kristin Corlett
I really liked this angel I found in the cemetery the other day, but not for the reasons you might think. I like this angel because she is not typically delicate. All of her features are big. Big eyes, big flat nose, a wide flat smile and a thick neck. Even the feathers on her wings are heavy and clunky. I can see this angel getting things done and keeping the unwanted out. Sort of the bouncer of the cemetery :)
Enjoy!

You're right. She's not a pretty little thing. And I mean that in a good way!
I absolutely adore cemetary angels! I search them out constantly. My husband thinks its a creepy obsession. I wonder if there are any flickr groups just for concrete angels??? Hmmm... might have to start one if not.
Mayhaps the angel that God placed, with a sword of fire, at the gate of Eden to protect it AFTER he tossed out Adam and Eve was a bit like THIS angel!
Your angel is naturally "distressed" which I far prefer to the artificial technique which renders some furniture so.
You have a good eye. Great description and wonderful photo.
I like that, a bouncer for the cemetery!! I noticed her wings right away, they seemed fluffier.
Thank you for sharing this angel with me.
Cemeteries are great places to photogragh things and people. You can really find some mood setters too. Can't beat starting with an angel.
What is our plump angel holding? A burrito?
HAHA great desciption! Just a quick little question is how do you get yourself to focus on the little details that most others overlook? I wish I could see things through your eyes or at least try! It's like I'm going through life blindly! lol
Oh Ruth Ann, it's like asking a chef how they know what the sauce needs. They just know it.
I guess I just look around but I miss things, too. When I was in Rome the girls were forever pointing out things to me.
They'd say "There's a Kristin shot!" and I had totally overlooked it.
When I'm in a cemetery I look for moss on statues or areas that are older. I always look for statues and crosses.
When I'm out on the street doing a neighborhood walk I look for statuary/birdbaths or unusual doors or unusual colors.
When I look at a plant I look to see if a small part of it looks unusual or would look great in a photo. I hold the camera up to my face a dozen times before I actually take the shot if at all. If it doesn't look good in the viewfinder I don't take the picture.
Sometimes when I'm with people and we are quickly going through places, I just take pictures of everything I see. I don't try to find the perfect shot, I just want to document it and hope that I can find some good shots. I don't want to slow anyone down, but I don't want to miss coolness either :) and I also just put the settings on auto.
Now that I've learned a little bit about shooting in manual mode, I am taking much more time in composing my shots and I'm using the 50mm lens which I just love, but has a very limited view. You can't just guess the shot with that little lens.
I honestly can't take pictures of people. I can't see them in the frame. I don't notice their expressions or hand placement or even if everyone is in frame. I think we all have a way of seeing. I hope to be able to someday take pictures of people, weddings, etc, but that is something I'm going to have to learn how to do.
For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. - Psalm 91:11
I like to think that my guardian angel is one that can get things done.
You're so cute. I like her too; the "dirt" lends a toughness to her, too :)
