Costumes and Confetti

When we arrived in Rome and started walking around, I couldn't help but notice the amount of confetti and silly string that was all over the streets, sidewalks and cars.  I thought it was a bit odd, but it was kind of cool to be walking along confetti covered streets.

The costumes and confetti are all a part of the celebration the week before Lent.  It's a lot like Carnival or Mardi Gras.

Mostly kids were in costume, but I did see a few adults  -  It reminded me of  Halloween, but the costumes were not scary nor did anyone wear any face paint or fake blood.

This little boy was with his younger brother and his parents and when they saw my camera the family actually encouraged me to photograph the little one in his costume.  It was fun and isn't this little boy adorable in his costume - He's got a cool sword, too.

This outfit was so rich.  It looked like crushed velvet and real jewels.  He was eating something and was giving the funniest faces.

This little girl was just one of the many princesses that I saw in Rome, but she was by far the most put together.  She has a purse, gloves, a coat and a shawl and a crown.

This little boy is holding one of the bags of confetti and is wearing a red suit of some kind.  It was spiderman, but it was superheroish I do believe.

He and his parents emptied the entire bag of confetti here at the Spanish Steps.  They had so much fun!

I saw so many small kids in costume, but older kids got into the act, too.  This group of four boys (only three were dressed up)  was one of my favorite finds :)  I don't know if the boy in the black long robe has his costume on backwards or if it was two sided.  I only saw these boys from the back.

...but my absolute favorite costume was this boy's.  Those wings!  I love the wings, but I also love the confetti in his hair and in his wings.  I think he even has an eye patch.  What an intriguing costume!

This was such an unexpected treat to see the costumes and confetti.  I'm so very grateful that we were in Rome the week that we were because I had never seen such a thing.

I have been able to talk about Rome all week because I've been doing nothing else really except editing photos.  At some point I really will talk about other things...I promise!

Have a fabulous day!

You are right - the winged boy is an awesome picture. He captures the imagination.

And the Princess! She is a lady in her little gloves. So pretty!

I love your posts about Rome. I'm so glad you had a wonderful time.

you have a lot of "kid" left in you and that's what gives you that great eye for all things fun! You can post Rome as long as you want .. it's a vacation most of us would love to take.
