POTD - Wild Sea Oats

POTD - Wild Sea Oats

Wild sea oats are protected in Georgia and Florida (possible in other states, too) not because it is an endangered plant, but because it helps stabilize sand dunes and reduce erosion. When I think of sand dunes, I think of the beach fences and wild sea oats.   Well, and sand, too!

The sand dunes in this photo are along the Gulf of Mexico in Alabama out along Fort Morgan Road.  Thankfully the oil never made it to the sand dunes, but just barely.  Just a few feet away I saw a whole line of tar balls.
