The waiting game

It's been an exciting and stressful few days.

One of our friends in the transplant community got the call.

The call that a possible match was on its way and that she needed to get to the hospital to prepare for surgery.

I was so excited for her and her family.

We actually saw them in ER coming in as we were leaving.

Since my husband was sick, I didn't stay with them at the hospital, but I knew some of our friends would come and visit in the morning.

She came through surgery quickly and with promise.

Text messages were sent out and congratulations were given!

Then it happened.

Things just started becoming a head scratcher and the doctors and nurses were working on her non stop.  She was moved to Intensive Care.

I tried to stay away, just in case I was carrying this virus that my husband has had, but I just couldn't stay away any longer.  I had to go to the hospital and see my friends.

She was sedated, so I couldn't speak to her, but I witnessed the flurry of activity.

There didn't seem to be a panic situation, but I knew it wasn't normal.

After a few hours I left and a few hours after that I got the call - she needs another liver transplant and it has to be soon.

The wait won't be long at all since she will be at the very top of all lists, but it's scary.

She was there.  She got the call.  She had the transplant and now complications.

I wish I could help more, but all I can really do is sit and wait to hear some news.

The cat in the photos are of her son's stuffed animal that he named Baby.

He's waiting, too.

I'll be saying a lot of prayers tonight.
