Slow Dancin'

Swayin' to the Music
Johnny Rivers

I was 11 years old when this song came out. (June 1977) Knowing me, as I do pretty well, I probably didn't get the 45 RPM record until the following year. I actually think this was the very first record I bought. My Dad was a radio DJ at one time so we had quite a collection of 45s. Nothing was current at the time, but I loved them. Buying a record of my own was a big deal.

Swayin' to the Music. Gosh I can still see myself in my bedroom, sitting on the midnight blue shag carpet, listening to this 45 play over and over again. Sometimes I'd turn the volume way down so it was almost a whisper and I'd let it play for hours. This song had a calming influence over me.

I don't listen to a lot of music these days, but I have noticed that when I get a little ramped up I can literally hear this song in my head calming me down.

Ahhh, the power of music.

Have a great day!
Kristin

Swayin' to the Music 1977
(Slow Dancin')

Johnny Rivers

It`s late at night
And we`re all alone
With just the music
On the radio

No one`s coming
No one`s gonna telephone
Just me and you and
The lights down low

And we`re
Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
Slow dancing
Just me and my girl

Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
No one else in the
Whole wide world
Just you, girl

And we just flow together
When the lights are low
Shadows dancing
All across the wall

Music`s playing
So soft and slow
The rest of the world
So far away and small

When we`re
Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
Slow dancing
Just me and my girl

Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
No one else in the
Whole wide world

Hold me, oh, oh, hold me
Don`t ever let me go

As we dance
Together in the dark
There`s so much love
In this heart of mine

You whisper to me
And hold me tight
You`re the one I thought
I`d never find

And now we`re
Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
Slow dancing
Just me and my girl

Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
No one else in the
Whole wide world

Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
Slow dancing
Just me and my
My, my, my girl

Slow dancing
Swaying to the music
No one else in the
Whole wide world

Whole wide world

It's a great song. We didn't listen to a lot of music growing up. My parents just were not into it. It was in my later years in HS that I listened more but I don't remember buying many records. It wasn't until my thirties that I really got into music.

It amazes me that there are people who don't HEAR music at all. I grew up with music lovers and agree with whoever said, "There are only two kinds of music. Good music and bad music".

Alas, nobody agrees with what that means. Hearing Slow Dancing makes me wonder if you married someone who loves to dance. (Hardly anyone does.)
