New picture!

I got my hair cut today. My stylist does such a good job. I look so well kept once every 8 weeks or so. So I've started taking a picture. Tomorrow I will have flyaway hair, the ends will stick straight out and I may even wear a barrette (but probably not tomorrow) but today, I wore make up, had my haircut and took a picture.

And here I am being Green! It's called Night Vision on the Photobucket effects tab. It actually looks real good.

Enjoy!!

a. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
b. Using only the first page, pick an image.
c. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into fd’s Mosaic Maker

Here are the questions:

1. Your first name.
2. What is your favorite food
?
3. What high school did you go to?
4. What is your favorite color?
5. Who is your celebrity crush?
6. Favorite drink?

Where I Live

Just the other day I mentioned the Listography book that my sister gave me. In that book is a section titled "List the places I've lived."

This has been a sticky issue between my husband and I because he always wants to move. He wants something bigger and better, or in a better location - sometimes just a different location, not necessarily better. Now that the market for housing is down, he wants to get out of our condo and get into a house real quick. He's been looking for a house just about since the day we moved into our condo and I've held him off for quite some time, but I'm not sure I can hold him off much longer. There are just so many great looking houses out there and the prices are fab!!

Anyway, back to the list.

I listed 16 places where I've lived. There were more. I moved a lot in Albuquerque, NM. I can't even remember all the places I lived. Those places where I stayed with other people & didn't consider it my residence, I didn't include. That was a really interesting time. Teenagers do the stupidest things.

So here we go!

Born in Marquette, MI - KI Sawyer Air Force base
Apartment in Holt, MI
Duplex in Lansing
My home in Lansing -- 2nd grade through HS graduation.
Dorm at UNM
Studio in Albuquerque, NM
2 BDR rental in Albuquerque, NM
Basement of parents house in E. Lansing
Apt of boyfriend, E. Lansing, MI
House of boyfriend/Fiance* (same as above) Okemos, MI
21 steps straight up to my rental Apt. Lansing, MI, just 2 blocks from The Goat.
2nd floor of house on Walnut St. Lansing, MI
The house that Tom** and I moved into together that was possessed, had a million frogs, a stock pond, etc. Bell Hwy, Eaton Rapids, MI.
The house that Tom designed and built on the lake in Coldwater, MI.
Spruce Creek Fly-In, Daytona Beach, FL
The 5th floor condo in Jacksonville, FL

Where in the world will I live next???

Have I mentioned how much I dislike moving? The last move, from Daytona to Jax was so chaotic that I am still sorting through boxes. Nothing was sorted. It was pretty much tossed into a box and loaded onto the truck.

Have a great day!

More on Walter

I posted about Walter, one of my tenants and a lung transplant patient a few weeks ago. When we last updated, he had taken a turn for the worse, but was still in the capable hands of the Mayo Clinic. Tom and I had gone up to see him in the hospital and he couldn't say a single word due to the tracheotomy.

Since that day, I have been working on the flips and took off 10 days to go to Michigan. Today while I was cleaning the condo they had rented from me, Walter and his wife, Liz stopped by. Walter got out of the hospital a week ago...so that was May 31st. He only had the trach in for two days he told me. I'm sure he willed himself to get better, just by having that thing in.

He looked amazing. He was breathing on his own. No mask, no canula, no tanks, no nothing. He has always talked fast but he seemed to be a bit slower, a bit more relaxed. It was good to see. I have been sending out the good vibes, prayers and good thoughts to him everyday, I'm glad I got a chance to see him.

Liz and Walter moved to a larger condo after he got his transplant so that family could stay with them. I would have prefered to have them stay in my unit, of course, but I'm also very happy to have had them for the 11 months that we did. I've got someone else moving in shortly. We decided, since we had some time, to rip up the carpet in that unit and put down a laminate floor. It was a good move, it looks great...and I bet it is going to be easier to clean, too.

So Walter is doing real well and it's all because someone was an organ donor. What a blessing.

Have a great day!

Listography

My sister, Alison, got me this book (journal-type book) that is called Listography. She said that she knows how much I love to make lists and maybe this would be a fun book to fill in. The illustrations are a hoot, too.

When she gave it to me, I just casually flipped through it and looked at the pictures and some of the titles of the lists. It looked like something fun and I was excited to start coming up with things to fill the book, even though I still had no idea what it was all about. When I actually spent some time looking at it, I realized what the intention of the book was...

"Listography, the book, is designed to help you create your autobiography through list making."

What an absolutely cool idea!!

The very first list is "list the pets you've had and their names." There are a few of the usual suspects - list your favorite books, your favorite movies - but there are some really off the wall lists like, "List the ways you've changed since you were a teen," and "list the things people should remember you for," and "list your best purchases."

How fun!

I am so glad that Alison thought of me when she saw this book. I am going to fill up as much as possible. I'm not sure I can fill in each list section, though, there is just something incredibly personal about "list the strangest places you've had sex" and I honestly don't think I want that in my autobiography...even in a list!

Have a great day.

***Check out the website. You can post your lists online for free and you don't even have to buy the book. www.listography.com

06-07-08

I love dates, and numbers and digital clocks.

I've posted how much I love the time 11:11, just to see it. Not to make a wish, but just to see it on the clock. Cheap Thrills!

Today is 06/07/08

What a great day!

I just checked the Mayan Calendar that my Mother gave me and it is White Rhythmic Dog, Tone 6. Not quite sure what that means, but I do know that Tone 6 is a day of organization. She (my mother) suggested that on Tone 6 days I should clean my house. It should just come more naturally on that day. Well, I cleaned and vacuumed and mopped and did laundry yesterday, on a Tone 5 day. It did get clean, but I had to force myself to get it done.

Today I will be cleaning (and hopefully finishing) the rental condo. I've been putting off finishing it for some reason. It should be easier today, right??

So, I'm thinking that 06-07-08 needs to have some kind of celebration. I wonder what I could do?

Tom's been asking for Banana Bread, maybe I can make him some in celebration of the 678.

Maybe I can find a house number of 678 and take a picture of it.

I could throw away 6 things in my house that are trash, take 7 things out of my house that can go to the garage and donate 8 things to the local Salvation Army drop off center.

(I'm all about getting stuff out of my house)

I could write 6 people a letter, post a comment on 7 blogs and create 8 posts for my own blog.

I feel a little like Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks in "You've Got Mail" when they are trying to figure out what her email friends online name, NY152, stands for and Tom's character comes up with all of these awful things like, 152 people that think he looks like a Clark Bar or 152 pock marks on his face. While she says sweet things like 152 people who thinks he looks like Clark Gable or he has 152 insights to her soul.

So back to 678.

I'm going to make this a fun day.

I'm going to try to find ways to make 6, 7 & 8 work into my day, just to be fun.

Enjoy your day!!

The Afredsons

I managed to catch the three Alfredson girls on the couch all together. My sister hardly even had a chance to hold Stella, as the bundle of cuteness was being passed around from one outstretched arm to another. This was a real nice moment, a quiet moment.

We went to Clark Lake on Sunday night to hear Root Doctor play at the Beach Bar. Jim, Alison's husband, plays the organ in the band.

Hillary and Stella. This was taken at the Beach Bar. I like the braclets in the photograph.

My Aunt Marg spent most of the weekend in the kitchen cooking, chopping, slicing and hollowing out zucchini. She did manage to get her hands on Stella at some point during the graduation party.

Swinging

I asked Zora if I could take pictures of her while she was swinging.

This is what I got.

She was very tired of swinging with her head down at this point and finally looked up! What a great face!

Have a swinging day.

On the Road (Hazzards)

While on the drive home I saw some interesting things. I took a lot of pictures of barns and farmland, but this was one of the most unusual finds.

The red truck was towing the white truck. The light yellow lettering on the back of the white truck said -

In Tow
Guatemala or bust

This was a road hazzard, even on the road at the rest stop. They pulled over and I passed them before they even got on the highway. I'm glad because I didn't want to know how fast this partnership could go.

I wonder if they really were going to drive all the way to Guatemala?

This guy had his feet out of the passenger side window for a very long time -- swinging them, holding them up real high and then letting them crash to the side of the door. He obviously doesn't own that van or he wouldn't be denting the door like that!

I finally did pass them, when they took an exit, and the guy in the front seat was almost laying down, but not quite. It looked incredibly uncomfortable. I guess he didn't think so.

Have a safe drive!

Exterior Paint

I took a trip to Michigan to see my family, attend a graduation party and meet my new niece, Stella. I drove. 1172.2 miles on the way up and 1168.2 miles on the way back down. Same route. Less turning around on the way home I guess. I took a million pictures, but the one picture I couldn't wait to take was right here in Jacksonville. The Flip house on Jupiter Court was painted while I was gone.

Lets take a gander at what we purchased....

Ahhh, ain't she a beauty? This is day one, hour one. April 11th, 2008

Here we have all the tyvek on and some of the siding going up -- this was roofing day.

The front of the house is almost completely sided. The front door area was finished while I was in Michigan, so I don't have a picture of the entire front finished (before painting)

Well, here it is!! Yellow house, white trim, green accents. I had brown drip edge installed with the roof, instead of white, so that the discoloration that always comes from the water running off the roof won't streak the white trim paint. I think it looks pretty good.

Well, actually, I'm thrilled to pieces - I think it looks amazing!

Here is a detail of the window area. The Window boxes were installed and painted, too. And the shutters look so nice.

We even have a visitor to our new place.

I am so pleased. The house looks Awesome! (That's a Dan saying)

Have a Great Day!

42

I honestly can't get over the death of my cousin.

I guess I didn't say that correctly. It has only been a few days since his death, so it is totally natural to not get over it in such a short period of time, what I meant to say is that I am thinking about it constantly. I can't get it out of my mind.

He was my age.

He was born just 2 months and 12 days before me.

He had 6 kids. 7 grandkids. Two wives. (one divorce)

I have one husband and a cat.

Did he live his life fast?

Did he run from the gate so quickly and get everything he needed to do into those 42 years so that he didn't need to live here on earth any longer?

My Mother's brother died at age 21. He had already been around the world twice and had a pilots license.

I have a husband and a cat. I've been to Norway twice. I have taken a few cruise ship cruises to the Carribean and through the Panama Canal. Am I living my life at a snails pace? Is that OK? If you go through life quickly does that mean that you get out quicker?

I don't want to get out, absolutely, I don't want to get out, but I am wondering if I am living my life a little too slowly. Maybe at 42 I should have seen more of the United States. Maybe I really should have had a child. Maybe I should have kept in touch with more people, since I don't have any children to run after. Maybe maybe maybe.

These are my Grandparents - Eddie and Mildred Corlett (& me, peeking out from behind them.)

This is Arlas' grandparents. Hazel and Blanche Gilliland. I called them Aunt and Uncle. Aunt Blanche and Uncle Hazel.

My Grandmother and Arlas' Grandmother were cousins and best friends. They had a double wedding and 50 years later (Pictured here), they had a double 50th Wedding Anniversary party. In 1974 I was 7 years old and Arlas & I had one of only a very few photos of us taken. Most of the time Arlas and I were filthy from our heads to our toes. His grandmother, Blanche, would hardly let us into the house because we were so dirty. So it is funny that the only picture of Arlas and I that I own, is one where we are dressed up in our very best clothes.

This is us - Arlas and I. It must be at the beginning of the party because both of us have pretty straight looking hair and we haven't gotten dirty yet. The corsage that I have on is plastic. I still have it. When my Mother saw this picture the other day she said that she had always liked that dress that I wore that day.

I guess I don't have to hurry up. I don't have to have children. I don't need to go around the world or drive truck across the country. I need to be me and I need to love those around me, those that I care about and those that I think of...

Have a great day!

Arlas Hazen

This is my cousin.

I cannot even begin to describe how much I loved this man. We rarely saw each other as adults, but as kids we were holy terror in the summertimes when I would come visit. I saw him about 5 or 6 years ago in a truck stop in Iowa. He and his wife were traveling I-80 in their truck and I was traveling I-80 going out to California. We sat for a few hours in the truck stop jabbering at each other. He drank a lot of coffee as I recall. I remember thinking that I had to soak in each moment because we might not get to see each other too many times.

I am planning on going to Maywood, NE in September and I had just found Arlas's business card and wanted to share the good news with him and see if we could meet up. However, I had a trip to Michigan planned for the next day, so I put the business card on my pegboard to call when I got home. Oh, how I wished I would have called. I'm still in Michigan as I type.

I really wanted to send a little toy Volkswagen to have placed with Arlas (it was our most infamous event) but instead I sent a page with three photos. One of his grandparents, one of my grandparents and one of the two of us. These were all taken in 1974 at the 50th Wedding Anniversary of our grandparents. They had a double wedding and a double 50th. I will post that photo when I get home. It is very cool indeed.

Love you Arlas. Rest in Peace.

Kristin

Jack Benny & Grandpa

I chatted with my Dad tonight on the phone and somehow I got to talking about Jack Benny. I just loved Jack Benny - so much so that every time the PBS station has on the the little biography of him during their fundraising events, I watch it. I must have seen that darn thing 10 times. You don't see many Jack Benny clips anymore, he's part of the old time comedians.

George Burns, Bob Hope, Jack Benny.

I heard that Harvey Korman died the other day. I really enjoyed his comedy, too.

OK, so back to Jack Benny. My Dad tells me that my grandfather (his Dad) loved to tell stories. In fact, he had many of the same facial expressions as Jack Benny. I don't remember the story telling part of my grandfather, he died when I was 10, but maybe one of the reasons why I like to see the old Jack Benny shows is because I can see my grandfather in him.

I think that's really cool.

We named one of our cats Rochester, after a character Jack Benny created. I can hear it now - "Oh Rochester..."

Have a great day!

May Links

Sculpture

Tom and I went to Orlando recently to visit IKEA. Just to say Hi, how ya doin' ?

Actually, to purchase much needed items for the Jupiter house, as I have gone on and on about the past few weeks.

After a long day of shopping, my dear husband wanted some BBQ. He discovered this little spot on HWY 1 in Ormond Beach, FL. It is the new home of the Harley Davidson dealership & amusement park. Well, OK, not really an amusement park - but there is a pavilion , a few hotels, lots of little restaurants, and these sculptures of roosters in front of the BBQ place.

I loved these guys. I wanted to have one in my yard.
Today please.
Oh right, I live in a condo.

OK, so I took some pictures.
Aren't they cool?!

The BBQ was incredible, btw. They had diamond tread on the walls. I love diamond tread. Did I mention that the BBQ was incredible? Yes, yes it was.

So were the roosters.

Have a great day!

Chimney bricks

Have I shown you all the brick pile from the chimney? These are some really cool bricks. Some are long and skinny and some are pure white without any holes in them.

What do you think of the PVC and screen accents we have given the brick pile - pretty cool huh?

We were planning on building some landscaping interest with these bricks - maybe a path, or as a border for some flower beds.

We aren't going to do that now - as I think we have a buyer for the house and we aren't going to do the landscape - they are. So this pile of bricks, combined with the pile of bricks at the Springfield house are going to be used in some other landscaping event. Not sure when, but I can tell you, I'm going to let you know.

Unfortunately, since the brick thing is my project, I'm pretty sure that I'm the one that's going to have to haul out and find a place to store all of these puppies. So I have any volunteers?

Have a great day!

Secret Scrolls

Most people feel powerless to help others, when in fact every single human being has a power within them that, when directed properly, will help beyond anything else. You can direct this power by focusing on people in difficult situations being in joy, by imagining them in joy right now. Hold to the outcome of joy for them. By doing this, you will cause the unfathomable Creative Power to move through you to bring them joy.

Chandeliers

I love love love this chandelier that is painted on the wall. I wanted to do this when we staged the Jupiter Court Flip house for sale. Although, I wasn't going to paint it on the wall, I was going to have it painted on a canvas and have it hung above the bed. I don't believe we will be staging the house at this point, as it quite possibly may be sold before we get to that point - so no chandelier over the bed.

When my sister, Hillary and I were out shopping for clothes in December of last year, there was a New Years dress section of the store where there were these beautiful acrylic & mirror chandeliers hanging. I asked one of the employees if those were for sale anywhere in the store and she said that they were just Props. Recently, I found those props in an online store out of the UK. I couldn't find a price for them, but the chance of me ordering one was probably nil anyway. The cool thing though, is that they do exist and a regular joe like me can order one, if the price is met.

Chandeliers are showing up all over as accessories.. printed on fabrics for curtains or pillows and even, as seen above, as wall art. I do fall for trends - but I usually don't buy them - but I fall. I look longingly at the trendy item in the stores or in the store catalogs. I see the items online and drool over them. I imagine where I might put such an item in my home and then I look around and notice that there isn't a chance in heaven that whatever it is I want, will fit into this already crammed to the gills household, the dream ends.

I still want to get a chandelier painted on canvas and hang it over a bed...even if it isn't mine.

Have a great day!

Mailboxes

I've been thinking about mailboxes lately. We've got to purchase one for the Jupiter Ct. house.
I thought I'd look through my photos and see if I had any pictures of a mailbox. I found several.
I didn't realize that I was drawn to mailboxes so much. I always knew that I liked them, but not to this extent!
The condo where I live, we have a little kiosk of sorts that houses about a hundred small postal boxes. Everyone has a key to get into their box. There just isn't any fun in that. Remembering the key, fiddling with the lock, opening it up, fighting with the mail to get it out of the small little box.
Maybe I have gathered all these mailbox photos after we moved here, to the land of the unfriendly mailboxes. I have met a lot of neighbors at the mailbox though, so I like that part.
Jupiter Court needs just a single mailbox, out by the roadside. The mailman walks through the neighborhood so we could have a box at the door, but I think the trend is to get them all by the road.
My friend Bob is always on the lookout for a manatee mailbox when she comes to Florida. I included this shot just for you Bob!
